Living in a rural area like ours requires some unique decisions to be made requiring emergency health care. Although our local fire department will respond to 911 calls, in many situations you will be flown out for medical care. It is pretty much a guarantee that if you have a heart problem, a breathing problem or an accident in an automobile you will be flown out to a trauma unit. Payson is not a trauma unit and even if you drive yourself there they will probably fly you out. That is an expense of $48,000 to over $50,000. These services charge about $35 a family for a year. It is a no brainer!
Omni/Native Air (855-877-2518) and PHI-Air Evac (888-435-9744) are the two helicopter services that cover our area. You don't have an option to select which one responds to an emergency, so it's best to subscribe to both. Make sure you tell them you belong to a group: "Young Community" for a discount. If you are on Medicare talk to the representative if you need the flight membership.
Life Shield is a program that sends you a check for $10,000 if you get flown out with either flight company. You can apply on line or over the phone; use coupon code 'young' all in lower case for a $59.99 annual rate. Individuals who do not have health insurance coverage are just as eligible for this coverage through LifeShield Alliance™ membership as anybody else. You can use your LifeShield Alliance™ coverage towards other medical bills if your insurance covers your air ambulance transport. (Please see the terms of the policy for details.)
