Young, Arizona is very unique. Our climate is very similar to the Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Potential late frosts and a limited growing season define us. We are planting 1000 Spanish varietal vines comprised of Tempranillo, Albillo and Mazuela on 2 acres of the 10 acre W-C Ranch (pronounced W bar C) founded by Emil Dobrowolski in the earlly 1970's. This vineyard is a tribute to those who love Young.
We have plans to establish a winery and tasting room and build a 2,500 sq. ft crush pad facility to go along with our 1,200 sq. ft. cellar. We plan to eventually produce between 350 to 500 cases of wine per year. A positive impact to the the community indeed.
In a tradition very similar to our very own American barn raisings, in Europe the planting of a new vineyard is a community event. Everyone is invited to plant some vines and experience traditions that are thousands of years old.
The event starts at 9:00 a.m. with vine planting and assembly of Blue-X Grow-Tubes, followed by a complimentary BBQ lunch for planting participants. All others are invited to join us for lunch at noon, as well, of Applewood Smoked Brisket and Applewood Smoked Pulled Pork sandwiches along with Ranch Beans and Ranch Coleslaw.
ATTENTION VENDORS: We have the potential for 26 10'x10' booth spaces available for the event. If you have a product or service and want to rent a booth for this community event, they are available for a nomimal $15 fee with all proceeds going to the Pleasant Valley Medical Center.
